Class details

The ability to communicate and persuade is a critical skill that is essential for future leaders in the 21st century, irreplaceable by machine. Being able to think creatively, analyze issues critically, speak persuasively, and present confidently will bring lifetime benefits.

This course will equip students with the ability to effectively communicate their ideas and provide access to the best public speaking teachers and resources available globally. Students will reflect on a broad range of age-appropriate topics, and will develop a deeper understanding of themselves and of others as they consider real world issues from different perspectives.

Olivia SummonsOlivia Summons is a sophomore at Yale University. Her love for debate began in high school where she competed in public forum as a member of the debate team for four years and competed in the NCFL Grand Nationals for three consecutive years. Along with debate, she also competed in the Northeast Regional Model UN Conference for four years where she was elected and served as a committee Chair. She served as president of her debate team her senior year of high school and served as president of her model united nations team for her junior and senior year of high school. She also placed first for two consecutive years in the Capital District Key Club International Oratorical Contest. At Yale, Olivia is an active competitor and serves as the Training Director for the Model United Nations Team at Yale. Throughout her career she has conducted extensive research writing debate speeches, developed a deep passion for public speaking and international affairs, and cultivated a love for mentorship and coaching.
